How to Pull Off Purple Lipstick

I know that purple lipstick won’t appeal to all, but to me, it is my favourite lip shade. I like the quirky, alien look it gives you, but that it is still down-to-Earth enough that people won’t look at you that strangely (especially if you follow my tips!). I know it is scary, but yes, YOU can pull of purple lipstick, it can be done!

Here are the best tips I’ve discovered for pulling off purple lipstick, as well as a list of my favourite pretty, purple lippies:

1.  Simple, neutral eye makeup goes best with purple lips

You may be tempted to also purple up your eyes, but please, no. Just, no. To rock the purple lipstick look, you best bet is neutral eye shadow, and if the purple is on the berry side, a bronzey colour looks great!

2. Start with a less purple shade of lipstick to get you more comfortable

If you want to wear purple lipstick, but are no where near comfortable enough to don it anywhere but your bedroom, try a less purple shade first. Think of it as a transition colour, on your way to purple glory. I would personally recommend the M.A.C. lipstick in Rebel, which is a dark pink/purple, even though it looks super purple in the tube! (Don’t be fooled).

3. Try a gloss first

Similar to tip number 2, using a lip gloss (which tend to be more sheer) helps you transition more slowly to that opaque, purple lips we all desire. Since no one can’t be happy when wearing purple lipstick, it also brings you one step closer to true happiness (*may be a lie). My favourite gloss is Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion (weird shade name, great product).

4. Similar to eye makeup, go for clothes that are more on the neutral side

Like with any statement lip, you want to avoid clashing. Besides the other makeup on your face, you outfit can also clash with your lipstick, particularly if you’ve whipped out the purple lipstick.

5. Finally, be confident and rock that lip!

Nothing will help you pull off a look more than confidence. Let your inner Regina, from Mean Girls, shine through, and rock that lip, gurl!

For your information, my two favourite purple lipsticks are:

– M.A.C. Lipstick in Heroine

– Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Shameless

Good luck beauties 🙂
