I’ve been inspired by the lovely Marisa Robinson to create a collab post with her on #SupportNotSabotage. Please check it out and leave her a lovely comment to show some support!

It is so easy to get caught up in the cut-throat kind of industry the online world is. The comparison game is strong with everyone showing just the best bits of themselves online. But it’s time to get honest. I’ve struggled with the comparing myself to others…

her posts are so much more informative

her photos are amazing

I wish I had as many subscribers as her

If only I could blog full time

However, thoughts like that don’t get you anywhere. I choose to find my worth in the fact the Jesus died for me to save me and in nothing else. When you know where you find your value, you worry less what people think. The false expectations of the world gradually fade in my mind and I can focus on doing what I love.

With encouragement from other online folk just like Marisa, I’ve been able to stay focused on building people up and not pulling them down.

Here are some ways I choose to support other people in the industry:

  • Leave meaningful comments after actually reading the blog post or caption
  • Give the occasional shout out on my Instagram using the hashtag #supportnotsabotage
  • Celebrating others successes and not holding onto jealousy
  • Every couple days I search one of my favourites on Instagram and spam their feed. This tends to work well since Instagram hardly ever shows me  the posts from my favourite people I follow anyway 🙄.

Together we will make it.
Let’s not trample eachother to attempt to scramble to the top. I hear the top isn’t as great as you would think anyway.

Link one of your favourite blogs in the comments to show some support for them!

Don’t forget to also check out Marisa’s post and go leave her a lovely comment too!

Love this so much Mel! I think the meaningful comments is such an important one. If someone has taken the time to read my post and leave a meaningful comment, it means so much!! With engagement getting harder, it’s even more important xx

Thanks Laura!! When reading a comment you can definitely tell if they actually read it or just read the title and had a quick look at a photo of two. Instagram especially is so hard to get good engagement on

I totally agree with the #supportnotsabotage sentiment you and Marisa are expressing in this Collab! It’s also the reason I started the Monday Makeup Madness link ups on my blog and the shout outs I do weekly on Facebook. We can all succeed, especially if we support each other and work together!

Your link ups are amazing Ingrid! I’ve made many friends and built relationships with many bloggers through them. I also find them encouraging because I actually get some comments on my blog posts, which I’m sure you understand, means a lot to a blogger! Keep up the wonderful work

Thanks for creating posts on this topic. It’s such an important thing to discuss! I’ve always thought of you as someone I think I could become best friends with in person haha. You are so sweet and full of encouragement!

I definitely have a major issue with comparisons, as we all do. Sometimes I get to the point where I think, who actually really cares what I do or write about, because I see the engagement and successes of other bloggers and it gets me down. But the truth is I just love writing, and I love writing about topics that really interest me which is basically and science-y to do with beauty. Other times I think, I had a point of starting my blog, there was a motivation. And I just have to keep telling myself that the motivation is still there, so that should be enough to keep my pushing myself to be the best blogger I can be. I don’t want to let the comparison to others be my motivation or driving factor to keep going, but sometimes that is hard to achieve.

In saying that, in those jealous times I still manage to support those I am jealous of haha. I don’t believe I get anything out of being nasty or snide online. And the successes of our fellow bloggers means we actually amount to something as a blogging community in Australia, so the success for others is a success for the whole blogging community!

    Once again, great post!

Hey Felicia! I totally think we could be friends too, especially after learning you’re a STEM girl too! Shame you live so far away!
Thank you so much for your honesty in your comment. Conversations like this one I find so helpful and encouraging. Just nice to know I’m not alone and it’s okay to sometimes feel a bit miserable. Also so encouraging to be reminded that being nasty to people online never gets you anywhere. I find to helpful to actually meet people face to face and realise they’re real people just like me, trying to do what they love.
Also so wonderful you LOVE writing! When I first started blogging I loved just being able to share my thoughts on beauty since no one else in my ‘real life’ would listen to me (what happens when you’re surrounded by engineers haha). Hope you keep doing what you’re doing and keen to see how your blog evolves in future x

This is absolutely amazing. It’s about time we took a stand and support it other, this will be contagious and spread just like a friendly smile does.

SO down with this concept! It’s so easy to lose motivation and wonder why you’re slogging your guts out for little return and feeling like your stuff is so broke-down compared to others but then a comment or a like will give you a boost again!
